大正初期臺中座外景

明治35(1902)年的臺中座是臨時房屋的戲場。明治41(1908)年始在榮町三丁目(今繼光街與中山路角)年建築150坪的劇場,大正2(1913)年買收寶座(大正館)營業演劇舞踊等相當興盛。照片為大正初期的臺中座外景。
蔡培火

蔡培火(1889-1983),雲林北港人,總督府國語學校畢業後任教職,因參加同化會被解職,得林獻堂資助赴日,進東京高等師範,參與新民會、主編《臺灣青年》,並全力投入臺灣議會設置請願運動,治警事件中被捕繫獄。
櫟社為林獻堂、黃炎盛餞行

1913年,林獻堂(前左3)、黃炎盛(後左4)將遊中國,三月十九日櫟社社員在林癡仙的無悶草堂為兩人餞行,與會者有:(前排左起)1.鄭汝南、4.賴紹堯、5.傅錫祺、6.林癡仙、7.陳懷澄,(後排左起)1.林幼春、2.莊太岳、6.陳培煦及張麗俊、莊龍、陳貫。
臺灣新聞社新舍落成

明治34(1901)年臺中「每日新聞社」創立。明治36(1903)年改稱「中部臺灣日報」。二年後擴張版面發行擴及清國、韓國、滿州、蒙古。明治41(1908)年改稱「臺灣新聞」,大正4(1915)年新社屋落成而遷入(如照片)。該報於昭和初期發行一萬三千份。
