由歐洲、北美、東亞聯合興建的阿塔卡瑪大型毫米及次毫米波陣列（ALMA）是當前史上最大的地面望遠鏡，臺灣獲邀加入此陣列的建造與運轉。
這座干涉陣列由66座高精密望遠鏡組成，其高角解析力與高靈敏度已為天文學界取得許多突破性的研究成果。
