"desc": "In ancient times, the goddess Nivnu descended upon Yushan (Jade Mountain), swaying the maple trees. The fallen fruits and leaves became the ancestors of the <i><b>COU</b></i>.<br><div>Once, a giant eel lay in a river. It blocked the flow of water and caused a great flood.<br> </div>It was only after a giant crab intervened by clamping onto the eel, hurting it and forcing it to flip over, that the flood gradually receded. The ancestors of the COU and the Maaya people fled to Yushan (Jade Mountain) to escape the flood. "title": "According to the Japanese government's investigation of indigenous cultural customs, the entrances to indigenous settlements often feature the worship of two deities.",
"desc": "ak’emameoi 地神<span><br>The <i>ak'emameoi</i>\nis the deity that guards the land and the indigenous tribes. At the entrance to\nindigenous settlements, you often find banyan trees planted, and a large stone\nplaced in front represents the location of the <i>ak'emameoi</i>. Indigenous people perform rituals by pouring liquor\nonto the stone as an offering to the <i>ak'emameoi</i>.<br><br></span>hicu no suveu 茄苳之靈<br><span>At the entrance to indigenous settlements,\nbesides banyan trees, you will also find autummn Maple Tree planted. The spirit\nof autummn Maple Tree (<i>hicu no suveu</i>)\nprimarily guards the entrance. If the tree is cut down indiscriminately, it\ncould lead to illness. Every year during the millet harvest, rituals are\nconducted to appease the spirit of the autummn maple tree.</span>",

"desc": "In 1876, Spanish Dominican priest Father Jose Nebot, along with\nmissionary members, arrived in Dalin, Chiayi, and established a mission\nstation, officially beginning the <i>“Chiayi Diocese.”</i><br><br>\n\nIn 1913, the Taiwan Catholic Church separated from the “Xiamen\nDiocese” and became a new “Taiwan Prefecture.” <br><br>In 1949, with the arrival of a\nlarge number of priests, nuns, and believers as refugees in Taiwan, the Holy\nSee further divided Taiwan into multiple prefectures.<br><br>\n\n<div>\n\nIn 1952, as announced by\nthe Pope, Yunlin County and Chiayi County and City were separated from the\nKaohsiung Diocese and established as the “Chiayi Prefecture.” In 1962, it was\nelevated to the status of the “Chiayi Diocese.” As of today, the diocese has a\ntotal of 52 churches: 5 in Chiayi City, 25 in Chiayi County, and 22 in Yunlin\nCounty.\n\n<span>In 2022, Pope Francis\nappointed Father Pu as the Bishop of the Chiayi Diocese. Bishop Pu, a member of\nthe <i>Cou</i> tribe from Alishan, became\nthe first indigenous bishop in Taiwan and officially assumed office on April\n2nd of the same year.</span>\n\n</div>",

"desc": "The West Gate Church was formerly of\nJapanese Christian Church. During the early years of Japanese colonial rule, Pastor\nHosokawa Kiyoshi came to Taiwan for missionary work, and starting in 1904, he\nbegan holding gatherings and preaching in Chiayi.<br><br>In 1925, the “Chiayi Church” under the\nJapanese Christian Church was officially established. The church’s chapel was\ncompleted in 1941.<br><br>After World War II, when the Japanese\nChristian Church returned to Japan, the church was taken over and supervised by\nPastor Huang Wu-dong of the “Chiayi Church,” namely the East Gate Church. In\n1946, it was officially established as the <i>“Chiayi West Gate Church.”</i><br><br><div>\n\nThe West Gate\nChurch chapel was constructed using Alishan cypress wood, featuring a dignified\nexterior and a wooden structure with a distinct Japanese Eastern style. In\n2005, it was designated as a historical monument of Chiayi City.</div>",
