The Hakka Affairs Monthly was established by eleven founders from the areas of newspaper publishing, social movements, and magazine publishing, with an aim to promote Hakka culture and language.

Published in November 1988, the 13th issue featured a cover image of Sun Yat-sen wearing a mask that represented the disenfranchisement of his mother tongue and a cover story "Lift Up Your Mask." This had a profound impact on the "Return my Mother Tongue” march a month later and the overall Hakka social movement.

Hakka TV (2018) (founded by Hakka Affairs Monthly magazine, triggered the “Return my Mother Tongue” movement.)
