這些撒奇萊雅族的後代靠海生活、以捕魚維生，並且常常搭船到各個港岸探勘，後來當船開到花蓮之後，發現古稱「奇萊」的花蓮港漁產豐富，因此在此處搭建了工寮，並經常往返於鹽寮與奇萊之間。\n\n \n\n   而他們的日常飲食方式，由於是靠海生活，因此常常是以海水加淡水，再將蔬菜或捕到的魚放到這微鹹的水中來食用，而這種飲食方式還一直代代相傳，直到現代。", "musicText": "", "至於捕魚方式呢？「我們通常是在平靜的溪流中，半年放一次Pacngcng(人工魚礁)。」黃德勇指出，Pacngcng是以竹子製成，竹子層層相疊之下，放入水中，久了之後上面自然會長出一層青苔，吸引魚兒過來居住。等到3~6個月後要收穫時，便先用竹圍將四周給圍起來，再將Pacngcng的竹子一層一層拿掉，最後便剩下魚獲了。\n\n \n\n 這種捉魚方式與阿美族的Palakau非常類似，不過黃德勇強調，「我們的Pacngcng才是這種捉魚方式的最早原型，只是在逃難時被阿美族給學了過去！」\n\n \n\n 另外還有一種放在湍急溪流中的漁具，稱為Bubu(魚筌)。Bubu是有著雙層的入口的捕魚裝置，外層的入口較大，可讓魚兒跑進來；內層則有著竹籤倒刺的設計，魚兒一旦跑進去之後便無法脫身了。", "musicText": "", "其實，撒奇萊雅族即使不用漁具也能夠捉魚的啦！他們的方式是將草給搓成長條形的草繩，然後一群人拉著草繩、圍成一圈。慢慢的，人們步步向前逼近、圈圈則是越來越小，把魚群給逼到角落，最後則是有個人拿著網子到角落直接捉魚，「這是最基本的捉魚方式啦！」\n\n \n\n
