"desc": "廣東客屬地區大都分佈在偏遠的山邊小鎮，19世紀前後這些地區的環境衛生條件較差，不時受瘟疫與傳染病侵襲，加上物資貧乏、不便的交通導致許多無法就醫的情況，許多人因無法及時得到妥善的照料而失去生命。<br><br>The majority of Hakka districts in Guangdong are in located in remote mountainside towns. Around the 19th century, sanitation conditions in these areas were poor, and residents were often vulnerable to plagues and infectious diseases. The lack of supplies and transportation made it difficult for residents to seek medical treatment, and many lost their lives because they could not access timely and proper care.",

"desc": "<b>Chinese Society Meets Western Medical Technology</b><br><br>研究民初文史的李明華認為，傳統中醫學的思想在華人社會根深柢固，對西醫各種「剖腹刳腸」的醫療行為感到驚異，有時有激烈的報導誣指手術行為。不過，外籍醫師面對各種壓力下，以精湛的醫術逐漸獲得地方的認同。<br>此外，教會醫院平時推動公共衛生、關注醫療事業發展，戰亂時為民眾救死扶傷，並開設醫護相關學校，陪力當地人習醫，起到極重要的促進醫療、公衛發展作用。<br><br>A researcher of the literary history of the early Chinese republic, Li Minghua, believed that traditional Chinese medical thinking was so deeply rooted in Chinese society that various Western medical practices such as surgery and amputation were initially met with disbelief, or even vociferous accusations of false surgeries. However, despite these pressures, foreign doctors gradually gained recognition for their medical skills. In addition, missionary hospitals promoted public health as a matter of course, and were attentive to developing their medical functions, saving lives and tending to the wounded during times of war, as well as opening medical-related schools that train local residents in the practice of medicine. They played an instrumental role in the promotion of medical care and public health.<br>",

"desc": "<span>除了在宣教站（mission station）設立的大小不一的醫療診所，巴色差會分別為1893年設立「梅縣德濟醫院」和1907年設立的「河源仁濟醫院」，大大提升了兩地的醫療技術和設備。<br><br>此外，德濟醫院也在1936年設立護士學校，培訓當地女性成為護士，除了把西方醫療知識傳播給當地人，也分擔了宣教士在醫院的職務。<br><br></span><span>In addition to establishing medical clinics of varying sizes at their mission stations, the Basel Missionary Society established the \"Meixian Deji Hospital\" in 1893 and the \"Heyuan Renji Hospital\" in 1907, which significantly improved medical services and facilities in the two areas.<br></span><br>In addition, a nursing school was also established at the Deji Hospital in 1936, to train local women in nursing. Besides providing Western medical knowledge to local residents, this also served to alleviate the duties shouldered by missionaries in the hospital.<br>",

"title": "心光盲女院 Divine Light School for Blind Girls",
"desc": "<span>設立在梅縣的「心光盲女院」，是1912年由赫求光女士（Else Herwig）通過喜迪堪會的支助開辦，在當時收留了四十多名棄嬰、盲女。<br><br>盲女院於二戰的1937到1945年間，曾一度搬入樟村避難，戰後才回到黃塘。如今盲女院已併入「梅州市福利中心」，由當地政府管理。<br><br></span>The Divine Light School for Blind Girls<span> in Meixian was established in 1912 by Madam Else Herwig with support from the Hildesheimer Blindenmission. The school took in over 40 abandoned infants and blind girls. <div><br>The School for Blind Girls was temporarily relocated to Zhangcun from 1937 to 1945 during World War II, and returned to Huangtang after the war. Today, the School for Blind Girls has been incorporated into the Meizhou City Social Service Center under the management of the local government. <br></div></span>",
