"四十四、宋江獅陣\n\n宋江獅陣：宋江獅是中國南方獅的造型，有青獅、金獅之別。據說宋朝宋仁宗時代，李太后生病，主禪老祖派金獅送藥進皇宮，救李太后有功，被敕封為田府都元帥，所以後世凡有宋江獅陣必奉祀此神。金獅在民間傳說中，常為吉祥物，可以驅邪避鬼，因而被視為神獸，能進寺廟中殿中門，為壯聲勢與宋江陣結合成「雙武館」，看來更威武而雄壯，以台南地區最為盛行。\n「宋江獅陣」一般稱武獅，俗稱「弄獅」。是由漢代百戲中之「曼衍」，「角觝」等發展而來的。由具武術之壯漢領銜，最前頭為手執長竹桿上掛奉祀之神「田都元帥」的三角旗為前鋒，其次為七星斧和獅陣。閱始表演時先揮舞三角旗，再來持大斧的武士，以雙斧住金冥紙，焚燒唸咒之後再以穩健的七星步或八卦步，面向獅頭比武揮斧，架式十足，獅子則配合操斧的動作方向與大鼓聲或蹲、或臥、或跳、或滾、成搖頭擺尾、舔毛抓癢，動作逼真而感人。另隨伴的陣容中有一位小男孩站立在男漢肩膀上，身著英雄好漢衣帽，揹上一口寶劍，戴眼鏡及手套，手不斷拋旋繫繩的彩球，此即為「弄獅咬球」；當獅陣遊行時，在前方引導，當獅陣表演時，也跟隨在旁戲球。此一男孩，必須在庄頭裡經賢人精挑細選出來，要看來眉清眼秀，既聰明又可愛的孩童才能中選。據說被挑選上的男孩，會為全家帶來福運。",
