It doesn’t mean NCKU is just an academic institution that specializes in engineering. NCKU also has a strong connection with its cultural environment. Besides, in the Japanese colonial period, Government-General of Taiwan placed the university campus in Tainan City because he considered that southern Taiwan was a hub for the sugar industry. wooden structures on display came from the front hall of Jhong’s Ancestral Shrine in Neipu, Pintung County. The Shrine was built in 1930 and its front hall was dismantled due to road expansion in 1995. Prof. Min-Fu Hsu and graduate students of the Architecture Department of NCKU went to its rescue and transported them back to the campus for collection as teaching materials in the course of Traditional Han Architecture in Taiwan.\r\nThe Han Housing structures are divided into two systems：: Chuan-Dou Frame and Deih-Dou Frame. The Chuan-Dou Frame system positions short pillars or struts on horizontal beams and then frames horizontal beams again to build up layers like upward stairs. And the Deih-Dou system shortens and widens struts into kuatung, shihtsuo, or shiangtsuo, and uses links such as tung, tungshui/yuankuang, wanshu, and shusui to connect columns, while shihtsuo (shiangtsuo) sits on tung to support the roof loading, becoming an inclined construction of overlapping layers. "本架棟來自屏東縣內埔鄉鍾氏宗祠前堂，該宗祠建於1930年，1995年因道路拓寬前堂遭拆除，國立成功大學建築學系徐明福教授與研究生前往搶救，運回建築學系典藏，供學生修習臺灣漢式傳統建築課程之用。\r\n漢式傳統屋架分「架棟」、「架扇」兩大系統：以水平橫樑上架短柱或瘦長形瓜柱，再架橫樑逐層上推如階梯狀，為「架扇」式系統。而瘦長瓜柱縮短增胖、或獅座、象座，柱間以通及通隨/圓光、彎束與束隨等繫材固定，通上再以坐獅、坐象層層疊起，形成屋架斜面，則為「架棟」系統。本展示架棟包含原宗祠前堂的前步口與後步口。\r\n\r\nThe wooden structures on display came from the front hall of Jhong’s Ancestral Shrine in Neipu, Pintung County. The Shrine was built in 1930 and its front hall was dismantled due to road expansion in 1995. Prof. Min-Fu Hsu and graduate students of the Architecture Department of NCKU went to its rescue and transported them back to the campus for collection as teaching materials in the course of Traditional Han Architecture in Taiwan.\r\nThe Han Housing structures are divided into two systems：: Chuan-Dou Frame and Deih-Dou Frame. The Chuan-Dou Frame system positions short pillars or struts on horizontal beams and then frames horizontal beams again to build up layers like upward stairs. And the Deih-Dou system shortens and widens struts into kuatung, shihtsuo, or shiangtsuo, and uses links such as tung, tungshui/yuankuang, wanshu, and shusui to connect columns, while shihtsuo (shiangtsuo) sits on tung to support the roof loading, becoming an inclined construction of overlapping layers.
