A four-ascoop net and sampan on Sun Moon lake

[英文]The painter of this picture is S. Misako, 1939. A four-arm scoop net, also known as Zeng 罾, is said to derive from the fishing method of Han. The structure is that people build a small hut on their boats and put the net in front of the hut. The boat is made of about twenty bamboos and the root of the hut could be covered with grass. The net is so huge that the width is more than 10 meters and the bars that support the net are about four or five meters, several times smaller than those that carry that net. To open and close the net, people use a huge wood fixed in the front of the boat as a pivot. They pull strings on the boat and close the net. Afterwards, people can get fish out of the net. In this way, they can catch a great amount of fish once a time (NCL).S. Misako 1939
