[英文]The caption for this postcard emphasizes scenery, describing Hitodome no Seki as a place with @steep cliffs on either side and beautiful rare rocks overhead; the scenery is gorgeous, the mountain atmosphere is truly moving.@ An earlier account of the same location, written before the Wushe Uprising of October, 1930, emphasized the historical importance of this site: @Located about 20 kilometers NE of Puli (Taizhong Province, Nenggao District). This is a strategic pass in the Aborigine district, 1212 meters above sea level. For ten years into Japanese rule, the local Sedeq peoples of Wushe held out here and were brought under government control only with difficulty. After the punitive expeditions of 1910, however, the whole area became pacified. Now they dedicate themselves wholly to hunting and farming under the tutelage of the Police. There is a branch station of the Wushe police sub-station located here, as well as an elementary school and a grammar school. Cherry-blossom trees are abundant here....Facing west towards Puli, steep cliffs rise on either side of the pass, making it a stronghold for defense, thus the name @Hitodome no seki@ (The pass that stops people)...@ (Nihon chiri taikei 1930, p. 114).
