An important government official and poet, Qian Feng [Ch'ien Feng] is remembered for his courage in speaking out against corruption in high places. Here, he as written that Sima Guang [Ssu-ma Kuang] (1019-1086), a Song-dynasty historian and conservative politician, had inscribed these words at the top of a mountain: "The secret of mountain climbing is to walk slowly, so that you will not tire, and to put down your feet on level spots, so that you will not stumble. This one should know."
