"Sounds of Meditation for Voice and Chamber Orchestra" was composed in the spring of 26. The piece is inspired by Tibetan Buddhism music, Tibetan opera and Buddhist philosophies. In Tibetan Buddhism, a life consists of the death, the metempsychosis (transmigration), and the regeneration (Nirvana). These three movements, The Sky Burial, The Drama of Transmigration, and Nirvana, represent these three processions of the life. In Buddhism, it is viewed as a short moment of meditation to Buddha. The texts in the piece are six mantras*(An, Ma, Ni, Ba, Mei, Hong) and twelve mantras (Hong, A, Hong, Ban, Zan, Ge, Le, Ba, Mei, Xi, De, Hong) in Tibetan Buddhism. The mantra is the most widely used of all Buddhist mantras, and opens to anyone who feels inspired to practice it.The practice of Tibetan Buddhism entails consistent meditation and mindfulness for the purpose of reducing one's poisons or delusions and arriving at a clear state of mind─the Enlightened Mind of the Buddha. All Buddhists share this common goal: to bring an end to suffering by taming the mind. Since the human condition contains many different forms of suffering, the Buddha taught many paths to liberation, which are now practiced throughout the world. I named this piece Sounds of Meditation, which not only describes Tibetan Buddhism's spirit, but also expresses my dream that I hope everybody can carry a heart of quiet peace to their lives.*Mantra: a sacred word or phrase chanted repeatedly and used as an aid in meditation.
