The coat of arms represented here is of the province of Holland, the most powerful and prosperous of the United Provinces. It included most of the major cities: Amsterdam, The Hague, Delft, and Leiden. The Dutch taste for Chinese porcelain created a fashion for commissioning and displaying sets of plates with Dutch motifs, especially the arms of the seven provinces.
