艾約瑟 Joseph Edkins

A missionary with the London Mission Society, Joseph Edkins was an accomplished translator and sinologist. During his stay in China, he visited Tianjing (Nanjing), the capital of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, and engaged with Chinese scholars. He translated many Western scientific works, studied Chinese social culture and language, and made important contributions to the exchange of knowledge and information between the East and the West.
