臺灣人的稻田
詳細資料
[英文]The English title of this card employs the word $Savage$ though the Japanese title uses the word $Taiwanese,$ (often translated as $native.$)thus confusing the two most broadly accepted categories of the population, from the colonizers$ point-of-view. For consistency$s sake, the English should read $Business of Natives.$ Perhaps this slippage is not so accidental, since many Westerners ca. 1920 would have considered the terms $native$ and $savage$ to have been synonymous. Nonetheless, it is doubtful that these Japanese card-makers employed foreigners to help with the English, as the many spelling errors and awkward constructions attest.
