[英文]This photo appears in volume 2 (Ami/Beinan) of the Taiwan Government General$s 8-volume survey of Aborigine customs and manners titled _Banzoku kanshu chosa hokokusho_, not to be confused with a different 8-volume set titled _Banzoku chosa hokokusho_, published by the same government survey bureau. The original title for this photo was @A Kappa resident$s old-fashioned appearance, pt. 2, profile.@ This photo was juxtaposed with a picture titled @Today$s look for Kappa@ which shows this same man wearing a tunic (and no machete). The original photo was published no later than March 28, 1915. This colorized reproduction makes no mention of original purpose of the photo, and also incorrectly identifies the model as an @Atayal.@ In the original source, this man is referred to as an Ami of Hualian prefecture. The title should read, @Male savage of Ataiyal tribe, Formosa (17)@
