[英文]@These hats are decorated with boar$s tusks and feathers; the jacket on the left is leopard skin. Paiwan chiefs concentrated economic power (in land rights), religious authority, and military leadership under one lineage. As tribute-takers, Paiwan nobility possessed distinctive clothing, pottery, housing and statuary; the cobra and human head evident on the embroidery of the right chief$s jacket are symbols of Paiwan nobility@ (Tung 1996, p. 110-11). This same colorized image, with the Japanese caption cropped off, was still being reproduced and sold in Taiwan as late as 2007, under the imprint: @原味台湾 Aboriginal Peoples of Taiwan@. The back matter on these reproductions is trilingual: @排湾族頭目/パイワン族頭目/Paiwan chief.@ This photo was also reproduced under the @Taiwan Historical Postcards Series@ imprint, again with the Japanese caption cropped off. The titles and captions on the back matter are bilingual (no Japanese this time): @盛装的排湾族頭目 The well-dressed Paiwan Chief 将自己捕獲的獲物毛皮及牙歯做為盛装, 男子的頭飾是山猪及牙羽毛, 皮衣為雲豹之皮 Shown in the picture is a village chief wearing his hat adorned with pig teeth and feathers, and a jacket made of leopard skin.@
