詳細資料
[英文]Hong (1993) considers this image to be a Tsuo chief in war clothing (p. 293); Ide (1937) agrees (p. 190); the card itself refers to its subject as a @youth.@ H. Suzuki calls him a @vice chief@ of Tofuya village in Tainan prefecture (H. Suzuki 1935, p. 50). As late as 2002, this man symbolized the Tsou tribe on the large @Distribution of the Taiwan aboriginal tribes@ wall map at the Museum of the Institute of Ethnology at Academia Sinica. Such icons were no longer displayed there by December, 2007, however. This same colorized image, with the Japanese caption cropped off, was still being reproduced and sold in Taiwan as late as 2007, under the imprint: @原味台湾Aboriginal Peoples of Taiwan@. The back matter on these reproductions is trilingual (oddly enough preserving a contradiction between the colonial description and later ones (the Japanese translation alone calls this man a youth; the Chinese and English refer to him as a commander): @阿里山鄒族征帥/ツオウ族の青年/Zuo commander@.
