[英文]The title should read, @71 The Remains of the old fortress at Takao@ 旗後砲臺建於清代，初建年代不詳，至同治13年(1874)日軍因牡丹社事件侵臺後，沈葆禎來臺加強海防，先後派准軍統令唐定奎、副將王福祿督造旗後、港口砲臺二處。旗後砲臺為英國工程師設計，為西式砲臺，但正門入口為中國式八字門，兩邊門上以磚砌成「囍」字。1895年日軍登臺，以砲擊毀門楣「威震天南」前二字，進佔打狗。光復後國軍於砲臺及燈塔間另築碉堡，砲臺荒廢至民國78年(1989)重新修復，為二級古蹟。 English Translation: Qihou fortress was constructed in Qing Dynasty. The original date of the construction was not clear. After Japanese invaded Taiwan in 1874 because of Mudan Incident, the Chinese official Shen Baozhen 沈葆桢 came to Taiwan to reinforce the Navy strength. He initially sent Tang Dingkui 唐定奎 and 王福禄 to build Qihou fortress and Guangkou fortress. Qihou was designed as a western-style fortress by an English engineer. But its front gate is Chinese style, and the symbolization of good luck 囍 is put on both side-doors. In 1895 when Japanese army landed in Taiwan, they destroyed the first two characters of those four 威震天南 on the door of the fortress. After reclaimed Taiwan, Chinese army constructed another fortress between the destroyed one and its lighthouse. The destroyed fortress left abandoned until the renovation in 1989. It is now a Grade II historic site (NCL).
