樂曲有感於唐代著名詩人柳宗元的五言絕句《江雪》。
千山鳥飛絕。萬徑人蹤滅。
孤舟孈蓑笙翁,獨釣寒江雪。第一樂章《吟》,旋律線來源於吟誦此詩時抑揚頓控的語音音調。同時,呈示了此曲的音樂材料,這個樂章可以看作是全曲的「種子」。第二樂章《舞》,建築在以雲鑼為背景的國定旋律主(音高材料均來源於第一樂章)。此旋律逐漸從背景走向前景,有遠而近,最終將樂曲推向高潮。第三樂章《滅》,像一首短小的悲歌,將人們帶到悠遠而孤寂的意境中。
The piece is inspired by the Chinese poem "The Snow-bound River" , written, by Liu Zong- Yuan (733-819) in the Tang Dynasty: Mountains and. mountains

Fishing the snow-bound riverIn the first movement "Recitation" , the melody line comes from the sound (pitch, modulation and tempo) of reciting the poem, (There are four tones in Chinese, each of them has a distinct character; when you recite a poem, there is a special modulation). It also presents the mail musical material of the piece, it could be considered as the seed of the piece. The second movement "Flourish" is based on the fixed background melody, which comes to the foregroundgradually played on YunLuo (Chinese pitch gongs), finally leading to the climax of the piece. The last movement "Submerging" , sounds like a short elegy, brings people to the secluded and lonely feeling.
